Term Two - Week five

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and dry after the weekend events. 

Thanks for ensuring all children had jackets and appropriate footwear today.

Lots of reminders and events coming up. This Wednesday we have Dr Simon Pollard from the School of Sciences, University of Canterbury coming to speak with our children. Simon is a spider biologist who has published books and worked as an advisor on a number of Attenborough documentaries. We are so looking forward to hearing what he does as a scientist and looking at all of his spider and bugs slides.  

Queens birthday weekend this week. No school on Monday the 7th (public holiday) 

A reminder for next week, Wednesday the 9th of June we are heading to the Botanical Gardens to participate in the Junior Park Explorers programme run by educators from the City Council. We will be leaving school at 9, returning by 1:30. Any associated contributions will be added to your activity levy. We need permission slips back for this A.S.A.P please. Thank you to those of you who have offered to parent help. We are thrilled to have you.

Mini Beasts Galore - Canterbury Museum

Wednesday the 23rd of June we are heading to the Canterbury Museum to participate in the Mini Beasts Galore programme run by a Museum Educator. Children will be using their skills of observation to get up close to mini creatures and their features. Save the date! We will asking for parent helpers to assist on our trip. If you are wanting to help we would love to have you! Please pop into the school office to get police vetted if you haven't done so already.  Sandra or Jackie will be able to help with this. Notes will be coming out next week for this.

If you have any boxes and bits and pieces from home that you want to get rid of we would love them for our construction table. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

  • Fridays- bike day - teachers supervise biking during learning choices
  • 3rd of June - parent information evening. Claire Knight from Learning Matters will be holding a parent information afternoon on structured literacy from 3:15 -4 :15. Hear about our professional development and what we are doing in class. Childcare will be available. Please let us know if you require childcare and we can pop you on the list :)

  • 23rd of June, Trip to the Canterbury Museum

Term 4 - Week 6

Kia Ora whanau. Welcome to week 6 of our 9 week Term. They certainly are flying by! A big thank you to our fabulous caretaker Darren who has our pool up and running. Soo lucky to have a school pool! Please send named togs and towels in a tog bag to school daily. We only go if the outside temperature is 16 degrees or above. Initially, we focus on safe entry and exit of the school pool, gaining water confidence, and moving in different ways through the water. Our official times are: Tania and Tina- Tuesday/Friday  Vanessa and Sue- Monday/Wednesday Even though these are official times the kids can bring their togs and towels each day just in case there is a free-swimming slot. The school pool will be open to use outside of school hours for families that purchase a pool key from this Friday 19th November.   A big thank you to Darren who has been working hard to get the pool and surrounding areas up and running in preparation for this! Autumn Exploring - Our trip to St James Park

 What a wonderful time we had last Friday 'Spotting Autumn'. As always with school trips, the journey was as exciting as the destination! We travelled down the cycleway and found a most marvellous path to run down. We loved watching the children show each other Manaakitanga by encouraging and helping their friends up the steep bank. When we got to the park we enjoyed crunching through the leaves and finding conker seeds. The leaves were beautifully dry, perfect for rolling on! Here are some photos below of our trip.
