Term Two - Week 9

Week 9, 28th June - 2nd July Kia ora whanau, Here are a few notices and reminders for week 9.   Hangi Update from Katie:  Thank you to all those who have offered to help with both the kai preparation and the hangi pit. On Wednesday 7 July, the kai preparation will start at 3.30pm and go until we are finished (about 7pm).  Please come down whenever suits your whānau and bring your own sharp knives and chopping boards.  Traditionally this work is done by the women and children, however, in the school community context, we welcome all help.  Hangi pit  - please contact Mike Anderson at principal@waimairi.school.nz if you want to help with this.   Dietary Needs Hangi - All hangi packages will be gluten-free and dairy-free.  Vegetarian and Halal meat packages will also be provided.  Halal meat packages will be cooked outside the hangi pit in a school oven to avoid contamination from the pork.   Breakfast -   Some gluten-free cereal will...

Kia ora whānau, Welcome to week 8 of our 10 week term!! Here are some reminders and notices for the week. Hangi Help - Looking for any help for our Matariki finale evening Thursday July 9th. Help with the hangi or any food to donate. Please email Katie at katie.lord-humphries@waimairi.school.nz . See email below from Katie as well:   It's been a while since we have done the Hangi and Matariki celebration so below is a timeline of details so you have an idea of what will happen.  In the past we have done rotations amongst our river groups learning about Matariki during the day.  Parents are invited in after breakfast to wander around and join in on the activities.  Please consider this when planning your day with your river.   Wednesday 7 July Kai preparation in the hall 5.30pm onwards.  Whānau come down with their kitchen knives and chopping board and we set out tables and they chop veges and cut foil and we package up the hangi packs ready for the next mor...

Term Two - Week Seven

 Kia Ora Whanau. Welcome to week 7 of our 10 week Term. Lovely to be welcoming Vanessa and Sue into our Nga Puna Whanau. Vanessa works Monday Tuesday, Sue works Thursday Friday and they alternate Wednesdays. Also a welcome to Waimairi for Zahara and Talia. It's lovely to have you with us. Lot's of dates and events coming up  Bookings are now open for reporting interviews for Year 2, 4 and 6 students only. ***Please note  that school is finishing at 2pm on Thursday 24 June and Monday 28 June. We will provide supervision for children who can't head home at this time. Please email your teacher if your child  WILL BE STAYING AT SCHOOL  on the 24th and 28th. Mini Beasts Galore - Canterbury Museum Next week Wednesday the 23rd of June  we are heading to the Canterbury Museum to participate in the Mini Beasts Galore programme run by a Museum Educator.
